Ivo, I have an idea with the text behind the shadows...
Of course,I have no idea how it could be implemented yet.(the following example is with Java)
But what is virtual? If we create a depth of horizon, dynamic text (in 3d space probably), and the motion of the viewer is synchronized somehow with the motion and the perspective of the letters (zoom in/out), then we create a second room, a virtual space within the actual space. The navigation of your body interrelates with the navigation in the text-space...When you approach the "screen" the text is bigger and collapse and is not readable, as you move back the text unfolds and is smaller, more readable.
This sounds to me that, apart from the text, it might need some more calculations of the amount of the shadow (remind u: the bigger the distance, the bigger the shadows they are.)
Remember the way you perceive a huge painting you have to create distance in order to see the "whole", I found it a good metaphor.
Check this simple example, and imagine instead of moving the mouse moving your body...

the example has more interaction according to the vertical axis, we can play more with the horizontal since the people passing by (apple dock example + the above = ?)
I don't know yet...thoughts thoughts...
Come on , I need a dialogue here...

hello efi.
im sorry for keeping up the dialog, but berlin is really interesting. so.
when i read your 4th post, without having checked the link, i stuck somehow with the 2 keywords virtual and 3d space. so i expected something probably quite different from the example. i m going to tell you.. i imagined something like a 3d object, covered with 3d letters, or letters/word, 3d as well, flying around in the space, and they come together according to the moutse movements, respectively the object moves to the position you, as a viever want to have it..
anyway, thats what you mentioned, your body turns into a navigation tool.
in order to get glaucons answers?
im asking myself, wheter our installation should become 3d, or should it remain on only 2 dimension?
if we re using a 3d space, your shaddow might becomes turns into window (if it doesnt fullfill the whole screen), opening you a view into another space, where you find some literature as a reward.
on first thought, i cannot foresee the effect, but i assume it becomes conceptually much more complex (also technically), maybee more immersive, what is, on the other hand, a supporting argument for this ide. so for me it could be an issue for the second version.
but this is a dialogue, so you can still convince me.
hm.. what i also wanted to tell you. maxMSPJItter, has good possibilities to work with 3d text (on openGL). i dont know all its potentials, but if we get into that i think we can fiddle out something visually impressing. hehe
so.. if you want to check it, download jitter (and if you have the expired 4.6 version, try 4.3) and have a look at the helpfiles.
or if java could be the solution for the textlayer, how r we going to implement that... cool. challenging..
i had another thought for the dramturgie. what the one who escaped from the "platos cave" experienced, could be an aim for a reward doing the right thing with the installation. is it too narrative?
hungry. thinking of food. rrr
did you change the color of the text?
no i didnt change any color
1.3d letters or objects sound too much for our case. But 2d letters or as transparent layers moving or unfolding in a 3d space.(similar to the example)I imagine that creates a weird phenomenon of space as you are moving towards and against. Like you have a magnet in your body and you are pulling and dragging the text.
2.No this happens as a technique to challenge the viewer to explore the content(text) and to find the proper position for him to read.
The truth is that it could be more interactive concerning the answers and the whole concept of dialogue with the sound response....hmmm
(no definite answer yet)
I have bad mood...:(
